Nutrition and Acne

Good nutrition quite simply means good clear skin and bad nutrition many times equals bad skin conditions giving us a very good link between Nutrition and Acne.

Nutrition and acne go hand in hand.  The reason I say that is because what you put in your body is going to reflect how your skin is, if all you eat is processed junk food, your skin will look and feel like it. But, if you eat healthy foods that are full of vitamins and minerals your skin will feel and look much better. While doing some research on this topic I have found that eating foods that lack Vitamin A will lead to blocked pores. Now you probably are wondering what foods have Vitamin A in them? Here are just a few that I was able to come up with, I imagine there are plenty more out there:
•     Liver
•    Sweet potatoes
•    Carrots
•    Mangoes
•    Spinach
•    Cantaloupe
•    Dried apricots
•    Egg yolks
•    Mozzarella cheese

As you can see there are a lot of foods that are packed with Vitamin A.

Vitamin C and E are two more ways you can fight acne with nutrition. Also staying away from saturated fats will help keep your skin clear. Vitamin C will help fight so any infections you might have. From personal experience Vitamin E does wonders for scarring.

A diet high in fiber will help keep the colon clean which in turn will help the body rid the toxins from your body to help the skin. There are so many ways that nutrition can help heal acne.

I am going to list a few other ways that nutrition and acne can work together:

•    Of course the most obvious way is to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
•    Drinking lots of water, make sure you get at least 8 glasses of water a day.
•    Eating protein filled nuts
•    Pumpkin seeds are also good for you.

Eating too many things with iodine in them like fish and table salt can make acne worse. Plus salt is really not good for you, won’t get off on a tangent about salt, maybe in future post we will look at how that is not good for you, but that is all I will say for now regarding salt.

Research also shows that eating to dairy products like milk, cheese, and eggs can cause acne to worsen. Again if we see people asking for more post on dairy or food related topics, stay tuned to the website for more on how food affects acne.

Coming up soon we are going to be looking at how Tea affects acne, especially green tea. But other teas also work to help us fight acne.  So stay tuned.

In addition to improving the quality of your skin, good nutrition can help improve your hair. Vitamins and minerals are the essential building blocks of all cells in our body. When you provide them the proper nutrients they function at their optimal level. That is why your skin clears up, and your hair grows thicker and stronger.

It’s funny how most people overlook the most basic but the key foundation in building and maintaining health – Nutrition and Water. Water plays an important role in distributing nutrients to all cells and dispelling toxins. An imbalance of these two brings on acne and other related health problems.

    Stephanie,

Very well put! Yes, isn’t it ironic that things in the past that were so natural are now overlooked i.e. nutrition and water. To make sure we get plenty of both, and yes I believe that we need more than the basic RDA, then many of our problems will be taken care of, as research shows. I learned in college nutrition class that highly processed foods are a big enemy and that is what most Americans eat.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing.
